The Bay Area may be chock-full of gay boy bars - but the lesbian scene is still going strong. With weekly and monthly events, there's always something or someone, if you get my drift to do. We've curated a list of our favorite lesbian parties, all of which make it their mission to provide a safe space for lesbians, trans-people, QTPOC, and their friends. Want to keep in the know? Follow a party's profile and we'll you when the next one is announced! Who said you can't get down on a Monday? No shame! This drag king night is a hugely popular meetup for lesbians.
Get those dolla bills ready to toss or put into their clothing, if so inclined to the acts that keep this night alive and packed each week. After the show a DJ spins tunes so you can keep the party going until you realize you definitely have work in the morning. This free night is open to queers of all kinds. No judgement, all party. Bring all your babes and buddies for cheap drinks, tunes, and some flirty fun.
This party is a declared safe space for queers of all genders. A relatively new addition to the queer party scene, The Port Bar is already a great spot for East Bay-ers to gather and have fun any night of the week. They frequently host guest DJs as well, so the beats are always fresh and the babes always fine. What do lesbians bring on a second date? A Uhaul! Never heard that one before, right? This party takes that stereotype and owns it, actively creating a space for girls who love girls.
Best part: the party now goes down every Friday at Jolene's Bar where the dance room is wallpapered with photos of bare breasts to FreeTheNips. Every first Friday is a queer party on Temescal Brewing's patio! They always have a food truck serving up bites to keep you going while you dance the night away with fresh brews and cute queers.
Don't fret if it's raining, either, Temescal's got you covered - literally, given their outdoor tent. Not only is Ships in the Night one of the biggest parties in the Bay, each edition is a benefit for current social justice initiatives and non-profits! Ships provides a fun, accessible space for queers, women, trans people, and people of color. DJs drinks, and dancing: what more could ya want? This party has been going since and shows no s of stopping. They donate their cover to various nonprofits around the Bay Area, so you can feel good about going out!
It's a party where you're encouraged to be uniquely you, so get out there and dance your heart out. This queer event always has great DJ sets and a mix of all genders and personalities. The bar and dance floor are in separate rooms which makes it nice for those who have to repeat their drink orders three times to be heard.
We love the cozy patio where you can hang out but still hear the tunes. Get this: Mango is an easygoing and damn near perfect daytime outdoor party with BBQ and great tunes! The proof is in the longevity: this party recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. Arrive early since there's always a line down the block. Hit the dancefloor with a cup of their semi-poisonous Passionfruit Punch and get down. This party's so poppin' it goes off twice a month at two different venues!
Hip-hop and club music keep your body moving all night long with a crowd of amazing people. You'll be sure to find some fashion-forward, booty-shakin' queers at these parties. Want more?
